Our beginnings
Emerald City Kickball began in 2020 as a project between friends to find a safe and affirming way to create an inclusive community during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a recreational sport that is available to players regardless of skill or experience level, kickball quickly became a vibrant piece of the Australia’s LGBTQIA+ community.
What is kickball?
Kickball is a similar sport to baseball or softball, except instead of a using ball and a bat, the pitcher rolls a large, rubber playground ball to the kicker, who kicks the ball and runs the bases. Kickball is played on a regular softball diamond.
Teams score points, or “runs”, by running around the bases and reaching home plate. The fielding team ends each kicking turn, or “inning”, by recording three outs.
